East Cooper Republican Club
Meeting February 20, 2006
Noon
Mt. Pleasant Holiday Inn
We are off to a good start this
year and have the Honorable Joe McKoewn as our principal speaker for
February. Joe has done an excellent job on the Mt. Pleasant Town Council and
will be sorely missed. I was a little disappointed that he chose to go for
County Council because he was a much needed member of Town Council. In my
heart, I know he will be a superb County Council member and I urge each of
you to vote for him and help him get elected. Joe has shown great leadership
abilities and has demonstrated the highest of Republican values. Let all
rally around him and with his election earn a stronger East Cooper voice.
Good Luck Joe!!!!
I don't know about you but I am
getting tired of the continued Democrat mantra that everything that happens
is the direct fault of the Bush administration. Rather than take the
wonderful opportunity to honor Corretta King, every speaker threw barbs and
taunts at President and Mrs. Bush as they sat there with great dignity and a
commanding presence. If that is the best the Democrats can do, the
Republicans had better keep control of all three seats of power. Moreover,
the recent disgraceful presentations of Teddy Kennedy trying to smear Judge
Alito and Hillary's suggestion of a plantation mentality at the White House
clearly show that they are playing to the liberal leftist fanatics. Again,
if that is the best they can do, the Republicans better get reelected or we
are really in for a national meltdown. It dumfounds me to hear Kennedy rail
against the morals and ethics of Alito when he himself was thrown out of
Harvard twice for cheating and his contemptible behavior leading to the
death of Mary Jo Kopechne. If you or I had been involved with alleged
(probably true) rape charges in Palm Beach, we would have been drummed out
of office. Why the people of Massachusetts keep electing the likes of Kerry
and Kennedy defies all logic. The scary thing is that they are all coming
down here to tell us how to do things right. Oops, got to be politically
correct to not offend anyone. Tell that to the European Muslims.
Johnnie Dodds Boulevard. What a
delightful dilemma. Build roundabouts that both the town study (DWA) and the
DOVER-KOHL study say won't work or Diamond grade separations that may be
ugly? What do we want? Logic say to define your goals then evaluate the
options to resolve your problems. You have two opportunities to see for
yourselves what problems we face and the the options to solve them. The
first will be a public hearing at the Shrine Temple on February 13th, which
you will miss unless you already know about the meeting, or on February 20th
which I urge you to make. To tighten the dilemma, County Council has told
the Town that they will fund the project only up to $140 million and if we
use less that that, the money we don't use will be returned to the County
and will no longer be available for any future road construction. Don't miss
the show. See you on the 20th.
Kruger B. Smith, President
