You can also check the status of your absentee ballot or provisional ballot on this website.

You must register at least 30 days prior to an election. To register to vote, you must either visit the Board of Elections and Voter Registration, their Service Centers, or the Department of Motor Vehicles or you can register to vote by mail by obtaining the voter registration form at the South Carolina State Election Commission website, downloading it, completing it, and mailing it to the Charleston County Board of Elections and Voter Registration address listed below. (If you register via mail, you must present a valid picture identification card the first time you vote.)

To vote via absentee ballot, you must request an absentee ballot by either going to the Board at their 4367 Headquarters Road location, calling them at (843) 744-VOTE(8683), or mailing them a request. To obtain an Absentee Ballot, fill out the Request for Absentee Application Form and return it either in person or by mail. If you receive an absentee ballot, you must use it since you are no longer allowed to vote at the precinct for that election.

Beginning this year, those who vote by absentee ballot for a primary with three or more candidates can choose their choices for a subsequent runoff elections in a descending order of selection at the same time they choose their candidates for the primary election. See the attached sample ballot.

To see a demonstration of the new SC voting machines, go to SC Votes and select the appropriate bandwidth for the demonstration.
